WEEK 4

After reading this article I thought long and hard about what exactly is noise. And where are the boundaries of music or art? For some people, a sound that is not pleasant to listen to is considered noise, or a sound that exceeds normal sound levels is considered noise. But some of these so-called noises can become pleasant when they are rationalised.
For music or art, it seems to me to be a relatively free dimension, some people say that music has to be melodic or played with instruments. But it is not. Music or art is supposed to be another form of expression besides speech, and there is no definition or very specific theory to cover it.

WEEK 3

In fact, the first thing I felt or felt after reading this article about the artist Chris Watson was admiration and a little bit of envy. I admire the artist Chris Watson for his exploration of life, nature and even the planet, for his perseverance in surviving the extreme conditions of the wilderness for the sake of a sound that he wants to record. Not only that, but in the article he mentions that recording with a tape recorder can be seen and used as a musical instrument, and I actually agree with this. In my opinion, the process of recording all kinds of sounds is a process of reinvention and creation, and every time you explore a sound and record it, you are creating a note. I also agree with his view that a sound or audio represents a memory or experience for each of us, and that people will start to mobilise their memories when they hear a particular sound, and then imaginary images will emerge.
I also learned from some of the recommended recording equipment he shared, and although I can’t afford many of them right now, I’ll be adding them to my Wishlist, such as the Schoeps double M-S array, DPA 4060, Sanken COS11 and so on.
